About Me

Repairing classic furniture

I love seeing old pieces of furniture that have been restored. Furniture used to be made to be repaired and to keep on being used for generations, unlike modern flat pack furniture which often is made for a single use. This blog has stories from second hand stores, families who've inherited special furniture and even schools who have gone through the process of restoring old furniture. It's got a lot of useful tips on how to care for old furniture and how to find a restoration firm. It's a beautiful thing to see an old piece of furniture restored to it's original state.

Do You Need A Plaster Ceiling Replacement? Three Signs That Indicate You May Need More Than Just Repairs

If you are moving into an old home or have lived in yours for decades, then you probably notice some sort of plaster degradation on the ceiling. This is only natural, as over time plaster will naturally start to erode, and plaster ceiling repairs need to be done. However, if plaster ceiling repairs are not done promptly, more problems can accumulate to the point where an entire ceiling replacement is necessary. If you have any of the following signs then you should consider going for a full plaster ceiling replacement, rather than the patch repairs that smaller cracks require.

Issues Across Multiple Rooms

If the main problem with your plaster ceiling is located in one room, then you probably do not need to conduct a full plaster ceiling replacement. Spot repairs are easy if they are kept to one place in the building. However, if the issue is present in two or more rooms, then it indicates that the whole plaster job on the ceiling is aged past the point of its usefulness, and it is only a matter of time before larger chunks start falling down. Don't let your home fall into ruin, call for a plaster replacement before it gets out of hand.

Plaster Holes

Plaster holes are a little different to the cracks you can see in the ceiling. Plaster holes are usually signs of something falling through the ceiling (either a tool dropped by someone in the attic above or perhaps even their foot), while cracks are naturally occurring after a long enough time period. If you have plaster holes, then the surrounding area of the plaster is likely quite fragile and could do with a full replacement. There is no one size fits all when it comes to plaster ceiling repairs, so to get a personalised quote, you need to bring in an expert to view your home.

Sagging Plaster

Once the plaster is old enough, it can begin to actually pull away from its original anchor point. This can cause a sagging look, and this can be much more dangerous than simple cracks and holes. If you notice any sagging in your plaster, you need to call for a plaster ceiling repairs expert as soon as you can. Sometimes the plaster can be saved, but more often than not, the only solution to fix sagging is an entire ceiling replacement. The last thing you want is plaster splattered all over your floor, furniture and belongings, so don't delay!
